Welcome Officer Haley Herbert & K9 Hera! K9 Hera is a 2.5-year-old Belgian Malinois born in Poland—because even elite working dogs deserve a European vacation before beginning their careers. After arriving stateside, she spent a short stint in Las Vegas at The Next Level K9, but quickly realized the glitz and glam of the Strip paled in comparison to chasing down suspects. She opted instead for a career in Colorado, where the stakes are high, but the air is fresher.

Hera is a dual-purpose K9, certified in narcotics detection, tracking, and apprehension. She was selected by her handler in February 2024 and quite literally hit the ground running. Since then, she has logged over 50 deployments, including a live apprehension of a dangerous suspect and several successful narcotics finds—one of which included sniffing out over 10 pounds of Fentanyl. Though she takes her job very seriously, Hera also knows how to unwind. In her off time, she enjoys rolling in the grass like no one’s watching, chasing tennis balls like her life depends on it, and indulging in her favorite treat: French fries.

Officer Haley Herbert, Hera’s partner and handler, joined the Silt Police Department in February 2025, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted passion for law enforcement. Inspired early on by her father—a Probation Officer in Glenwood Springs—Haley grew up hearing firsthand stories of client success and community impact, planting the seeds for her own future in public service. She began her career at just 18 years old as an Animal Control Officer with the Garfield County Sheriff's Office. From there, she transitioned to the Detentions Division, serving nearly a decade behind the walls of the Garfield County Jail. In 2021, she graduated from the Colorado Mountain College Police Academy and hit the streets as a Patrol Deputy, where she continued to make her mark before joining the Silt PD

Recently featured in the County Sheriffs of Colorado magazine’s Winter edition for “Behind the Scenes with a K9 Handler,” Officer Herbert has earned well-deserved recognition for her dedication to the K9 unit and the law enforcement community. Off duty, she finds balance in hiking Colorado’s scenic trails and capturing the beauty of the world through her photography—proving she’s just as skilled behind the lens as she is behind the badge.

Together, Officer Herbert and K9 Hera are a dynamic team committed to public safety, community service, and the occasional French fry run.
